OJF Electrical and Renewables Ltd is a Chelmsford electrician trusted by homeowners, landlords, and businesses throughout the town and surrounding CM postcodes. Our NAPIT-registered engineers handle everything from routine electrical testing to full commercial electrical installations. Every job is carried out in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations, completed to a high standard, and supported by the appropriate certification on the day.

Being based in Chelmsford means our clients benefit from prompt response times, straightforward pricing, and engineers who are familiar with the local area. Our team is fully qualified, City & Guilds trained, and carries full public liability insurance as standard.

We deliver the full range of domestic and commercial electrical services across Chelmsford — from EICR inspections, consumer unit replacements and electrical rewires to solar PV installations, home battery storage and EV charger fitting. Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Chelmsford electrician cost?

Pricing depends on the job. An EICR for a three-bedroom house typically costs £150–£250. Consumer unit replacements are usually in the £600–£900 range. For anything larger than a minor alteration, we conduct a free site survey before providing a fixed, written quote.

Do you carry out emergency electrical work in Chelmsford?

Contact us directly, and we’ll advise on availability. For genuine electrical emergencies — exposed live wiring, burning smells, repeated circuit trips — do not use the affected circuit and call us straight away.

Do I need an EICR before selling my house?

It is not a legal requirement for a sale, but mortgage lenders and solicitors increasingly request one. Any remedial electrical work flagged in the report will need to be addressed before exchange — arranging it early avoids delays.

How long does a rewire take?

A three-bedroom house typically takes two to three days. We’ll give you a clearer timeline after seeing the property, as older wiring, solid wall construction and loft access all affect the programme.

Can you install an EV charger at my business premises?

Yes. Commercial EV charger installation is part of our service offering. Moreover, OJF is registered under the Workplace Charging Scheme, which may allow eligible businesses to access government support towards EV charging installation costs, subject to current scheme rules. We handle the application as part of the installation.

Do you work across all of Chelmsford, including CM2 and CM3?

We’re based in Chelmsford and work across the whole CM postcode area — city centre, Broomfield, Writtle, Boreham, Danbury, Great Baddow and surrounding villages. There’s no additional call-out charge within our local area.

Areas We Serve

Based in Chelmsford, we provide solar installation services across Essex, including Colchester, Brentwood, Basildon, Billericay, Loughton, Ongar, Chigwell, Witham, Braintree, and surrounding areas.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had the team come install solar panels, battery and an inverter in our home in Chelmsford. They were efficient, did a great job and made everything look good. They were very approachable and the aftercare of the install was excellent. The package they put together was perfect for our needs. Even the scaffolding was put up and taken back down within the week. Can’t recommend these guys enough.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Local business, nice people to deal with (Ollie, Erin and Mason), on time, good communication and tidied up afterward. EV charger fitted neatly, looks great and they dealt with a couple of other electrical bits that needed sorting at the same time. Happy to recommend.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From the first contact to the resolution of the problem all communication was clear and helpful. Olly initially talked me through some "self help" ideas. I was then contacted by his office and an appointment made. Each time I was told what would happen next and when I would be contacted again. Each time they did exactly that.
Olly arrived on time (to the minute!) and as soon as he entered the house, put on shoe covers, without even asking.
The fault with our solar system was located and fixed very quickly and with minimum disruption and the bill was less than I expected.
Top class service. Considerate, thoughtful and dependable. Thoroughly recommend.
